The newest addition to my collection... When looking up online one of the most valued camera's is the Contax T2, for being an autofocus point-and-shoot with a lens many would describe as one of the prettiest around. What i did not know initially was that the same lens was used on its predecessor, the Contax T; which happens to be the tiniest little rangefinder with an aperture-priority lens and a great viewfinder. And best of all; whilst not exactly cheap it looked like a steal compared to it's successor. But is it any good? one way to find out.
I ordered the cheapest one of the ebay that actually seemed to be clinging on life... mostly. Then, due to accidents in sheduling and taking the wrong camera's with me, i ended up shooting a whole con with almost just this one camera.
The good is that the photo's are indeed stellar; well-exposed and with strong contrast. Using the camera is really nice, having used autofocus point-and-shoots for a while it's so nice to actually have focus confirmation, the 4-dot system in the viewfinder is exactly enough to know what the shutter is doing for your aperture-priority, and the drawbridge design ensures that the lens actually gets protected when it otherwise lives in the pocket of your pants.
But alas, it's not build well (despite apperances). I stripped the tripod screw pretty instantaniously after trying out a selfie stick (why is that thing made out of plastic?), loading film is actually a bit of a PITA, and mine has developped a habit of just skipping frames (you'll hear the almost unhearable shutter not doing it's thing and you'll know your shot ain't on film). It's annoying as else it would be a fantastic little pocket compagnon; but the hunt shall continue!
